Introduction to the Classification and Differences of Mineral Insulated Cables

Classification and differences of mineral insulated cables
Hongsheng: Except for national standard cables (rigid), all other flexible mineral insulated cables are enterprise standards.
Relatively speaking, national standard cables have advanced technology, complex and rigorous construction, because the metal sheath itself is difficult to bend, the installation is more difficult, and expensive special accessories are required, and the fire performance is also higher BS6387; while flexible cables are similar to ordinary cables in installation, with a low construction threshold, but the fire performance also meets BS6387. In application, products matching the building fire rating and importance should be selected.
Rigid mineral insulated cables cannot be produced in longer lengths due to process limitations, and require special accessories for installation and use. The bending radius can be achieved (6D) when using special tools such as a blowtorch and bending wheel. Flexible mineral insulated cables can be continuously produced, and different metal sheath structures have different bending properties. Domestic technologies mainly include copper tubes (rigid), aluminum tubes, transverse welded corrugated copper tubes, and interlocking armored metal sheaths. The allowable bending radius decreases successively, to a minimum of 7D (D is the cable outer diameter, the bending radius of ordinary cables is about 10D). The actual site and cable tray limitations should be considered in design and construction, and appropriate products should be selected.
Hongsheng: Generally speaking, the smaller the allowable bending radius, the easier the installation. Rigid mineral insulated cables are inherently hard and have very strong impact resistance. Flexible mineral insulated cables have stronger flexibility, and impact resistance depends on the specific structure of the cable. However, except for the interlocking armored type, all mineral insulated cables are difficult to lay in curved pipes, especially large-sized cables.
