What are the characteristics of mineral-insulated cables? (Part 2)

Hongsheng: Because the actual normal operating temperature of mineral insulated cables can reach 250℃, IEC60702 stipulates that the continuous operating temperature of mineral insulated cables is 105℃. This is to consider the needs of terminal sealing materials and safety. Even so, its current carrying capacity far exceeds that of other cables, because mineral insulation has better thermal conductivity than plastic, so at the same working temperature, the current carrying capacity is greater. For lines above 16mm2, one cross-section can be reduced. For places where human contact is not allowed, two cross-sections can be reduced.

IV. High Current Carrying Capacity, Waterproof

V. Hongsheng: Mineral-insulated cables are overload-resistant, and the copper sheath can be used as a grounding wire

Overload Resistance: Because the melting point of copper is 1083℃ and the melting point of the mineral insulation layer is also above 1000℃, compared with ordinary plastic cables, the current carrying capacity of mineral-insulated cables can be increased by one cross-sectional level, and it can withstand considerable overload. Its overload capacity can reach more than 10 times the normal current carrying capacity.

Copper Sheath Can Be Used as Grounding Wire: For mineral-insulated cables, due to the continuity and extremely low grounding resistance of the copper sheath, it can be used as a grounding wire without a separate grounding wire.

VI. Uses of Mineral-Insulated Cables:

Due to the excellent performance of mineral-insulated cables, they are suitable for fire protection and the following lines with a rated voltage of 1000V or less:

General lighting
Emergency lighting circuits
Emergency broadcast circuits
Emergency elevator and hoisting equipment circuits
Fire alarm control circuits
Computer room control circuits
Fire electrical circuits
Generator room power transmission circuits
Power supply circuits that cannot be interrupted
Dual power supply control circuits
Public area lighting circuits
Main/branch power distribution system circuits
Scenic spot lighting circuits
Power and control circuits in high-temperature environments
Oil pump circuits
Circuits in potentially hazardous explosive areas.
