What are the advantages of copper core cables? What are some tips for buying them?
Regarding household wiring, most people have some understanding. Copper core cables are commonly used. When choosing wires in daily life, I believe that copper core cables are often recommended by salespeople. They have become an indispensable part of our lives. So how should we choose and buy them, and what should we pay attention to?
Most people are familiar with household wiring, commonly using copper core cables. When choosing wires in daily life, I believe copper core cables are frequently recommended by salespeople. They have become an indispensable part of our lives. So, how should we choose and purchase them, and what should we pay attention to?
What are the advantages of copper core cables?
1. High Strength: At room temperature, the allowable stress of copper is 7% to 28% higher than that of aluminum. The difference is even greater at high temperatures.
2. Low Resistivity: The resistivity of aluminum core cables is about 1.68 times higher than that of copper core cables.
3. Good Ductility: The ductility of copper alloys is 20% to 40%, and that of copper for electrical work is over 30%, while aluminum alloys only have 18%.
4. Large Current Carrying Capacity: Due to its low resistivity, copper core cables with the same cross-section allow a current carrying capacity (ability to pass large currents) about 30% higher than aluminum core cables.
5. Low Energy Consumption: Because of copper's low resistivity, copper core cables have significantly lower power loss compared to aluminum cables. This improves power generation efficiency and protects the environment.
6. Convenient Installation: Copper core cables are flexible, allowing for a small bending radius, easy turning, and easy passage through pipes. Their high mechanical strength allows them to withstand significant mechanical tensile force, providing great convenience for engineering installation and facilitating mechanized construction.
7. Low Voltage Loss: Copper core cables have lower resistivity; therefore, with the same current flowing through the same cross-section, the voltage drop in copper core cables is smaller.
Therefore, the same transmission distance can ensure high voltage quality. Or, under allowable voltage drop conditions, copper core cable transmission can reach a long distance. This means a wide power supply range, facilitating network planning and reducing the number of power supply points.
8. Fatigue Resistance: Aluminum is easily broken by repeated bending, while copper is not. In terms of elasticity, copper is also about 1.7 to 1.8 times higher than aluminum.
9. Oxidation Resistance and Corrosion Resistance: The connectors of copper core cables have stable performance and will not cause accidents due to oxidation. The joints of aluminum core cables are unstable, and oxidation increases contact resistance, causing heat and frequent accidents.
What are some tips for buying copper core cables?
1. Appearance - When choosing, consumers should pay attention to whether the wire's appearance is smooth and flat, the insulation and covering are intact, the markings are clear, and the wire model is not oily. From the cross-section of the conductor, the thickness of the insulation or sheath around the entire circumference of the conductor must be uniform, not biased towards the core, and the insulation or sheath must have a certain thickness.
2. Surface Markings - According to national standards, continuous markings with the manufacturer's name, product model, and rated voltage are required. This helps to locate the manufacturer in time if problems occur during the use of the wire. Consumers should pay attention to this when purchasing wires.
