Compared with aluminum core cables, copper core cables have higher performance. Because the resistivity of copper core cables is lower than that of aluminum core cables, the power transmission speed is higher, and the ductility and corrosion resistance are better. In addition, aluminum core cables are prone to oxidation, corrosion and breakage, while copper core cables have the advantages of anti-oxidation, internal corrosion resistance and less breakage. Therefore, copper core cables are more widely used than aluminum core cables, especially in some important electrical facilities.
Copper core cables have the following advantages over aluminum core cables:
1. Low resistivity: The resistivity of aluminum core cables is about 1.68 times higher than that of copper core cables.
2. Good fatigue resistance: Aluminum is easy to break when repeatedly bent, while copper is not easy to break. In terms of elasticity index, copper is also about 1.7 to 1.8 times higher than aluminum.
3. High strength: The allowable stress at room temperature is 7% to 28% higher for copper than for aluminum. The difference is much greater at high temperatures.
4. Low heat dissipation temperature: Under the same current, the heat value of copper core cables with the same cross-section is much smaller than that of aluminum core cables, making them safer to operate.
5. Large carrying capacity: Due to the low resistivity, the allowable carrying capacity (current that can pass through) of copper core cables with the same cross-section is about 30% higher than that of aluminum core cables.
6. Low energy consumption. Obviously, the power loss of copper cables is lower than that of aluminum cables because of the lower resistivity of copper. This helps to improve power generation efficiency and protect the environment.
7. Good oxidation and corrosion resistance. The joints of copper core cables are stable and will not cause accidents due to oxidation. The joints of aluminum core cables are unstable, and oxidation increases the contact resistance, causing heat generation and frequent accidents. Therefore, the accident rate is much higher than that of copper core cables.
8. Low voltage loss: Concentric cables have lower resistivity, so the same current flows through the same cross-section. The voltage drop of copper core cables is small. In addition, under the same transmission distance, copper core cables ensure high voltage quality. Under the condition of allowable voltage drop, copper core cables can transmit electricity over a long distance. This means a wide power supply range, which helps network planning and reduces the number of power supply points to be set up.
9. Convenient construction, flexible copper core. (1) The allowable bending radius is small, so it is convenient to turn and easy to pipe. (2) The copper core is fatigue-resistant and is not easy to break after repeated bending, making wiring convenient. (3) Copper cables have high mechanical strength and can withstand large mechanical tensile forces, which greatly facilitates construction and creates conditions for mechanized construction.
